Warrior Tech Seeks Savvy Students

Warrior Tech Invitation (1)Westwood’s technology team will be starting a student tech program this year called Warrior Tech.

The program aims to get high school students more digitally literate while giving them a chance to solve real problems. Students will tap into their areas of expertise while under the guidance of the ITS staff in order to help solve campus (and, perhaps, district) issues and needs. Students will broadcast a tech help site and show to help fellow students and teachers. Members of the Warrior Tech Staff will also be part of the inaugural Student Professional Development task force, providing hands-on training for educators.  Members will also be encouraged to volunteer and mentor elementary and middle school students interested in tech-related fields.

“Warrior tech leaders will make changes to the Westwood culture,” Instructional Technology Specialist Christy Fennewald said. It’s a great opportunity for students wanting to teach, learn, and make a difference in Westwood classrooms, especially in the area of technology.”

Warrior Tech is accepting applications now through Sept. 9. Applications can be found here: http://goo.gl/gEKp4I

About the Contributor
Lanie Catuogno, Faculty Adviser
Ms. Cat here. I've taught journalism and advised the Westwood Student Press since 2013. Before that, I taught graphic design and advised yearbook staffs in Texas and California for 20 years. My undergrad degree is in Plan II Liberal Arts from the University of Texas at Austin, and I have a Master's of Education in Reading. I was an ASNE (American Society of News Editors) Reynolds High School Journalism Fellow in 2013. I earned my CJE (national certification as a journalism educator) in 2016. I was proud to be honored with the Edith Fox King award for journalism teachers in 2018. I love my job and it makes me especially happy when the newsroom is hopping and all the student journalists are busy following up on stories. If you are looking for my teacher website, click here.
