School spirit echoed through the air on Sept. 14 as students from different clubs and sports gathered for the homecoming parade and pep rally. This year, floats were adorned with many unique decorations- the overall theme being “through the decades”. Each club/sport was assigned a decade and used their creativity to represent the time period. Girl’s basketball took home the first place award for their 1920’s Great Gatsby theme. Other innovative ideas included a softball’s 1930’s mafia float (2nd place) and volleyball’s use of neon colors through a 1980’s jazzercise theme (3rd place). After the parade, students cheered loudly in support of their team during the pep rally and encouraged people to come to their upcoming games. “I feel fortunate to be here, and I know that when students look back on their years at Westwood they’re going to be excited to know that they’re a part of this.” Athletics Director Anthony Wood said. Hallway decoration awards were given to American Sign Language (1st Place), NAHS (2nd Place), and Environmental Club (3rd Place). Homecoming week will conclude with the football game on Friday and the dance on Saturday.
