From the practice fields to the football fields, the freshman football team came prepared and ready take on Stony Point High School on Thursday, Oct. 13. The Warriors fought hard, but left the field 14-24. The loss came from multiple interceptions during the second and third quarter.

“I think I played a better game than I usually do,” Justin Gillette ‘20 said. “I was making a lot of tackles. Usually I’ll only make a couple tackles per game but I made a whole lot more during this one. I still think I need to work on my speed and strength that will definitely help me with my performance in the next coming games. I also need to improve on keeping my head up.”

The Warriors pushed hard towards the beginning, getting the first touchdown in the game. The team great start but the game took a surprising turn by the end of the second quarter.  After a pass from Connor Cooper ‘20 to Kameron Colvin ‘20, the ball was intercepted just before it could reach the end zone. Each player gave the game their all, and although it wasn’t enough many had positive perspectives on the game.

“I definitely played better during the second half,” Joseph Kubelka ‘20 said. “The first half was a little rough for me and all of my teammates. We could improve by trying to play equally as good for both halfs of the game. We all just need to know our assignment and position throughout the game.”

All of the players set themselves a personal goal and something to improve by the next game, showing their Warrior spirit and determination to win.

“I was constantly watching the back field,” Dylan Vorpahl ‘20 said. “I would constantly not send to the receiver. And I can improve by just not watching the back field anymore. I know that I’ll play more next game because I will work harder during our practices, and the coaches will have a new play which will help us get better.”

The next freshman game is Thursday, Oct. 20 at Round Rock.
