Despite putting up a fight all night long, the Warriors were defeated 29 to 5 by the Georgetown Eagles in their first regular-season game on August 29.

After driving the Eagles deep into their own territory early in the first quarter, the Warrior defence was able to put points on the board with a safety. Special teams, led by junior kicker Josh Burton, helped the Warriors take a two point lead into the second quarter with a successful 34 yard field goal, making the score 3-5.

The Eagles responded by putting two touchdowns on the board during the second quarter, a provocation that remained unanswered by the offence throughout the second quarter.

In the second half, it was more of the same. Despite valiant efforts of the defence in holding back the Eagles, the offence got shut down on 3rd and long situations and was unable to put any points on the board, but nevertheless showed tremendous improvement over the previous year.

Even though the Warriors were down 18 points by the fourth quarter, there were many good moves by players on both the offence and defence; this alone, however, was not enough to allow the Warriors to win the game.

Westwood will play Anderson High School at the Kelly Reeves Athletic Complex next Thursday, September 4.
