Varsity Boys’ Lacrosse Drops to Regents on Senior Night

The varsity boys’ lacrosse team was edged out by the Regents Knights on April 21 with a score of 9-11.
The Warriors started off strong in the first quarter resulting in a score of 6-3. Alex von Waaden ‘17 scored three goals, while Brice Griffin ‘20, Ben Jensen ‘19, and Steve Szostak ‘17 each contributed one. Although the Warriors did not score in the second quarter, they still led over the Knights with a score of 6-5.
“We played our hearts out, it was Senior Night, so all the seniors were giving 100 percent,” von Waaden said. “We really moved the ball well, and our defense was solid, stayed tight, and moved well.”
In the third quarter, the team started to fall behind with only one goal scored by Von Waaden, and it ended with a score of 7-8.
“I think as a whole the team did well at answering every time that they’d get up a little bit, we’d find a way to call back,” Jack Mattson ‘18 said. “But I guess in the future, we just can’t let them get the lead in the first place.”
The two teams were neck and neck in the fourth quarter with back-to-back goals scored by Szostak, but it wasn’t enough to put the Warriors ahead. The game finished with a final score of 9-11.
“I think that they [the team] came out with more energy than I’ve ever seen them come out, they really wanted today, and it was just so great seeing them all get so excited for the game.” Szostak said.
This game ended the season for the lacrosse team, and was the last game for seniors Andrew Grosvenor, Ben Lammers, Garrett Serafine, von Waaden, and Szostak.
“I think that everyone gave it their all and there wasn’t a single moment where there was a groundball that we didn’t go after,” Szostak said. “That’s the hustle that we’ve been wanting all year, I was just really happy to see that, and it really paid off.”
