As a way to team build, the SunDancers traveled to John Newcombe Ranch in New Braunfels on Friday, Aug. 11. The team performed a series of trust exercises to test communication and teamwork skills, and also participated in several ropes course obstacles.

The main goal of going to the ranch was to build stronger trust between everyone on the team while still having fun. Many of the girls walked away with a couple of lessons to take into the school year.

“I learned that everyone is really supportive of one another and no one wants you to fail,” Sadie Armstrong ‘19 said. “Supporting others and getting out of your comfort zone will definitely be important throughout the year.”

The team had to work together to brainstorm ideas, redo obstacles, and even physically lift each other in order to complete the ropes course challenges.

“It’s all about being confident and trusting your friends,” Ashley Zhang ‘20 said. “Even though I already knew a lot of the girls, it was fun to spend time with them and get to know them even better.”

Many of the SunDancers concluded that the ropes course challenges made each girl’s strengths really “shine through,” according to Hallie Klein ‘19.

“Hopefully everyone realized how much each person contributes to the team,” Klein said. “This team is so great. It’s just going to be such a great year.”
