Varsity Volleyball Defeated by Hendrickson

The Lady Warriors were defeated by the Hendrickson Hawks (13-22 , 1-3) at Hendrickson High School on Friday, Sep 19. The Lady Warriors  dominated during the first set, but Hendrickson rallied to win the next three sets.

“Hendrickson is one of our biggest competitors in the district and our goal wasn’t necessarily to beat them, but to work as a team and stay positive throughout the entire match,” Courtney Markes ‘15 said. “We absolutely accomplished that goal and even though we lost, it was a step in the right direction to gain momentum as we finish out the first round of district play.”

The Lady Warriors started the season out strong with 10 victories to only 1 defeat. The Lady Warriors’ efforts on defense were led by Kim Sladek ‘16, who accounted for a total of 18 digs during the game.

“Honestly, Hendrickson had more errors in the first set which made our job a little easier,” said Sladek. “But on our side of the court, we did make unnecessary errors in the next three sets, which led to them getting on long runs, and those are always hard to come back from.”

Both teams had dominant members step up on offense. The Lady Warriors’ Courtney Markes ’15 had 16 kills, and Angela Yu ‘15 had 32 assists and 3 aces.

“I personally played better than usual. My defense was consistent along with my setting which makes it easier for all my teammates to have a great game as well!” Yu said. “When the passing is good and our hitters are being aggressive, my assists are only a part of the whole match.”
