Westwood’s Warriors (1-4) were defeated 3-48 by the Rouse Raiders (2-3) in their second district game on Sep 26.

During the first quarter, the Warriors were quick to put points on the board with a 42-yard field goal by Josh Burton ’16. The defense was able to hold the Raiders in their own territory for the majority of the first quarter. The Raiders responded with a touchdown and a two-point conversion late in the first quarter, bringing the score to 3-8.

Throughout the second quarter, however, the dynamics of the game changed completely. The Warriors’ defense was unable to hold the Raiders, allowing them to score several times during the second quarter. Westwood’s offense was unable to score off the many times they had the ball, leading to frequent turnovers on 4th-and-long situations. This brought the score to 3-24 at the half.

After the half, during which the Warrior’s band performed the majority of their show, Fore!, it was much more of the same.

The Raiders’ offense kicked into overdrive, with Westwood’s defense helpless in stopping them. In the third quarter alone, the Raiders were able to score 14 points—despite starting off at disadvantageous field positions the majority of the time. At the end of the third quarter, the score was now 3-38.

Throughout the fourth quarter, Westwood’s defense missed many important plays, and the offense was unable to execute their plays cleanly—leading to quarterback Jack Swensen ’16 being sacked a total of four times, adding up to 24 yards lost. The Warriors cleaned up their act, and finally hit a rhythm they could execute reliably, but it was too late—the fourth quarter had less than a minute remaining. The Raiders won the game by a margin of 45 points.

Westwood’s Warriors will play McNeil High School during Homecoming at the Kelly Reeves Athletic Complex on Friday, Oct 10.
