The JV Warriors pushed through an intense game ending with a fourth down to give possession to the Warriors. The final score ended 29-29 against the McNeil Mavericks on Oct. 12.

As soon as the ball was kicked off to the Mavericks, the McNeil receiver fumbled, and the ball was recovered by the Warriors. After the recovery, Kamryn Telesforo ‘19 caught a pass from quarterback Connor Cooper ‘20 to score the first Warrior touchdown of the night, bringing the score to 7-0. In the second quarter, Kameron Colvin ‘20 caught another pass from Cooper to score the second touchdown of the night at the 8:03 mark.

“It felt amazing, just being there for my team and helping them tie the game; it’s such a great feeling,” Telesforo said. “The high energy just made us hyped up.”

Preston Neidhart ‘20 helped the Warriors advance down the field, including a 20-yard run, but was cut off by the end of the first half with a score of 14-14. The Warriors fought hard to keep the Mavericks out of the end zone, and the third quarter ended with a score of 14-21.

“It was crazy because I only scored one touchdown but then it got called back, so scoring two, that’s more than I could ask for,” Neidhart said. “The adrenaline makes everyone come more close as a family and play better together, and know what we’re going to do to make more touchdowns.”

The fourth quarter was action-packed and began with two touchdowns from Neidhart. Earlier, the Mavericks had successfully completed a two-point conversion, so the Warriors wanted to tie the score by also completing a conversion. After persevering through many penalty calls, Cooper managed to earn the conversion to tie the game at 29-29. Following this adrenaline rush, the defense kept the Mavericks out of the end zone to keep the score.

“I feel like we played with a lot of effort, it’s not the best coming out as a tie, but I feel like this is the best game we’ve had in a really long time; we played as a team.” Cooper said. “We just executed, like our coach says ‘Alignment, Assignment, and Effort’, and we executed for the most part.”

The Warriors will face off against the Stony Point Tigers on Oct. 19 at the Warrior Bowl.
