The Lady Warriors varsity volleyball team defeated the Stony Point Tigers 3-0 during their last home game of the season on Friday, Oct. 13. Before the start of their game the Lady Warriors took a few minutes to honor the senior members of both teams, with special attention given to Lauren Gregorzyk ‘18, Emily Low ‘18, and Cassie Jackson ‘18.

“We all worked really well together, we fought really hard together, and we didn’t let any mistake get in our heads,” Low said.

In the first set the Lady Warriors  were able to set themselves up for an early victory by getting a lead of 5-3. Though Stony Point tried to catch up and came very close, but they were ultimately unable to gain the lead, and the Lady Warriors were victorious with a close 25-22.

“I guess we just weren’t really paying attention all that much,” Macy Prenger ‘19 said. “We just really were wanting to play, wanting to win and once we started to think about everything we’re like ‘Alright, what can we do to really take a lead?’ And that’s what we started to do.”

In the second set, Westwood once again pulled ahead with a 3-1 lead that they maintained throughout the set. Though Stony Point  pulled ahead at 7-6, the Lady Warriors were able to regain the lead and pulled through to a decisive 25-14 victory.

“We started to strategize where we’re gonna hit and what spots were open and everything,” Prenger said,”And we just got on top of them and were running a really fast tempo and I think that really put us up there in a higher lead.”

In the final set, the Tigers got the lead. In spite of a good start, however, the Tigers were quickly overwhelmed by the Lady Warriors, who overtook them 5-4 and were able to score several consecutive points afterwards, winning the final set with 25-14.

“Our defense was on fire tonight. I mean, the girls did such an amazing job of playing scrappy and with perfect effort, which is something I talked about all the time,” Head Coach Tara Nelson said. “Obviously at Senior Night there’s a incentive there and there was a little bit of a revenge match – they beat us in the first round and we just wanted it tonight.”

The volleyball team’s next game will be against Round Rock at Round Rock High School on October 20th at 6:30 p.m..
