Varsity Boys’ Basketball Vanquishes Mavericks 60-47

In their second district game against the Warriors’ sister school, McNeil High School, the varsity boys’ basketball team conquered the McNeil Mavericks 60-47. Over the course of this game, the Warriors retained strength by maintaining a constant lead in every quarter.

At the start of the game, the Warriors lost the jump ball but were able to regain possession for Daniel Victor ‘18 to score the first two-pointer. Quickly after, Patrick Sladek ‘19 shot the next two three-pointers in a row, with a concluding two-pointer by Brandon Kothlow ‘18. Ending the quarter at 10-3.

Maintaining determined into the second quarter, center Mason Flood ‘19 shot and made two free throws. Latham Robinson ‘18 and Victor added points one by one due to free throws opportunities. The quarter then ended on a layup by Zach Shrull ‘19, with a score of 26-17.

“This game was one of our first district homes games and it was against our rival McNeil,” Flood said. “We always want to win especially in these big games.”

At the half, the Chinese yo-yo club kept the crowd entertained with their yo-yo performance.

To kick off the third quarter, Victor shot a strong layup to preserve the lead for the Warriors. As Kothlow reentered the game, he ran up a layup. With an immediate foul on Robinson, he shot and made both free throws. Flood seized the ball in rebounds to help the Warriors stay in possession of the ball. To conclude the quarter, Brendan Ramirez ‘18 shot a two-pointer, ending at 43-32.

Into the fourth, Flood shot back to back two-pointers. Throughout the final minutes of the game, the only points added to the score were due to the seven fouls the Mavericks gave the Warriors. This concluded the game at 60-47.
