US Temperatures Drop Dangerously Low

For the first time in about ten years,  Austin has experienced longingly awaited snowfall not only once, but twice during this winter season. The snow may come as a shock to Austin, but to the northern portion of the United States, snow is an annual occurrence. Unfortunately, this year, a deadly bomb cyclone has also made its way into the U.S., making the temperatures not only freezing but also adding in the new danger of severe winds.

The bomb cyclone recently passed over the north-eastern side of the country, resulting in temperatures plummeting dangerously low. Due to the temperature drop, snow has been piling up everywhere which can result in danger for cars Flooding has also been occuring due to the large quantities of snow melting, especially in Massachusetts, where melted snow was flooding through the streets according to the Associated Press. The exposure to such bitter temperatures can also lead to hypothermia and frostbite very quickly, and thousands of people were left without electricity as well.

States in the north such as New York and Maine are experiencing harsh outcomes due to this bleak weather. In Boston, pipes froze and cracked according to Mayor Marty Walsh, and thousands of flights have been cancelled in New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport along with surrounding airports due to the dangerous ice on the runways. Additionally, at least six people have died due to this storm, according to ABC News.
