Fall Entertainment Offerings

allegiant-book-cover-high-resFall brings new releases in books, movies, and television. We’ve compiled a list of some of the most greatly anticipated ones out there.

Many authors are coming out with new books for their pending series. Rick Riordan’s House of Hades was released on October 8.  It is the fourth book in the Heroes of Olympus series. After the huge success of the Percy Jackson series, Riordan decided to write a new series to continue the story. The main characters, Jason, Percy, Annabeth, Hazel, Frank, Nico, Leo and Piper embark on a journey to save the world from being taken over by evil. After losing two members of their crew in the last book in the series, the plot is expected to be very different from Riordan’s other novels.

Possibly the most eagerly awaited book of this year, Allegiant by Veronica Roth, was released on October 22. Allegiant is preceded by the other two books in the trilogy, Divergent and Insurgent. Allegiant will pick up where the end of Insurgent left off, and protagonists Tris and Four will have to face their greatest fears yet. Though reviews of the book have been largely negative, that has not stopped any fans from reading the book anyway.

“After reading the first two books, I just couldn’t wait for the third book. And the huge cliffhanger at the end of Insurgent is just adding to my excitement,” said freshman Emily Chang.

Also by Veronica Roth, a set of four books accompanying the Divergent Trilogy will be released. The Transfer (the first of the four books) was already released on September 3.  Each book will be from main character Four’s point of view.

Several movies will be making their great debut into theaters this fall. The so-called movie of the season will be Catching Fire, the sequel to The Hunger Games This movie is set to premiere in the U.S. on November 22. Based on the novel by New York Times bestselling author, Suzanne Collins, Katniss and Peeta are faced with a shocking announcement. Fans of the book have been waiting for this movie since spring 2012. A dance-based movie titled Battle of the Year premiered on September 20, starring Chris Brown and many famous break dancers. In the movie, a group of misfits has to shape up and become a real B-boy team. They set out to win the big competition called Battle of the Year. Also coming this fall are Ender’s Game and The Book Thief, both based on novels.

Television offers the return of some very popular series this fall. One of the most well-known includes The X Factor USA, a singing competition that originated in the UK. This show was created as a product of Syco Records’ talent search to find new talent for the record label. The winner will receive $1 million and a recording contract. The Vampire Diaries, The Walking Dead, Supernatural,  and American Horror Story also will be premiering/have already premiered new seasons. The Big Bang Theory is still going strong into its sixth season. And of course there always the classic How I Met Your Mother, making its way through its ninth and final season, to the disappointment of many hard-core fans.

Hello, I’m Shreya Dasari, and I’m the Editor in Chief for The Horizon. I’ve been on the Student Press staff since my freshman year. I like to sleep a lot and consequently, I’ve been forced to preset “oops” to autocorrect to “sorry, I was sleeping” on my phone. I listen to every genre of music and one of my many talents includes being able to identify any song and its artist by the first five seconds. My favorite color is red, but sometimes I change my mind and tell people that it’s black just to mess with them. I also dance, sometimes. Occasionally, I bake. I love raccoons. I’m obsessed with raccoons. They love trash, and I am Trash, so therefore, raccoons love me.
