Westwood Speech and Debate Qualify Members for TFA

The Westwood Speech and Debate team competed at two tournaments last week, January 10 to 11. A set of competitors traveled to the Winston Churchill Classic in San Antonio and others attended the Bowie HS TFA qualifier. Many members of the team qualified for the state tournament held in Houston on March 6 to 8.

Seniors Terisha Kolencherry and Linda Yoo were octofinalists
Juniors Mikaela Manion and Meenakshi Baddela were octofinalists
In Lincoln-Douglas Debate
Junior Akhil Gandra was a Quarterfinalist
Sophomore Garima Singh was an Octofinalist
In Extemporaneous Speaking
Junior Darren Pomida was a Semifinalist
At Bowie
Overall, the team won Second Place Sweepstakes Award
 
In Cross-Examination Debate
Juniors Angela Park and Jacob Lundquist won 2nd Place
Sophomores Jenna Han and Neil Shah were Semifinalists
Seniors Brandon Johnson and  Muteramyi Nintunze were Quarterfinalists
Seniors Varun Jaladi and Alvin Chen were Quarterfinalists
Juniors Sasaank Bandi and Jaydeep Singh were Quarterfinalists
In Lincoln-Douglas Debate
First Year Elva Ye won 1st Place
Sophomore Spoorthi Dasari was a Semifinalist
In Public Forum Debate
Seniors Victoria Fung and Natalie Alexander were Quarterfinalists

Junior Priyanka Mara won 1st Place (Domestic Extemp)
Junior Vikas Reddy won 2nd Place (Domestic Extemp)
Junior Shomik Ghosh won 5th Place (Domestic Extemp)
Junior Niteka Raina was a Semifinalist (Foreign Extemp)
Sophomore Priya Ramamoorthy was a Semifinalist (Foreign Extemp)
First Year Ethan Brown won 2nd Place (Novice Extemp)
First Year Sonali Mitra won 4th Place (Novice Extemp)
