Anderson Trojans Defeat Warriors Baseball 7-1

On Saturday, March 5 the Warriors were defeated 7-1 by Anderson High School. Despite this loss the boys never stopped fighting. Anderson scored a majority of their points in the second inning, putting them in the lead for most of the game.

“Anderson came out really swinging their bats well,” Nick Von Waaden ‘16 said. “Westwood also came out hitting the ball hard, and to Anderson’s credit, their defense played very well. We worked extremely hard this week at practice and are more than prepared for this upcoming weekend’s battles.”

The boys put up a good fight, but their defense just wasn’t as intense as Anderson, costing Westwood a win. They are learning not allow these mistakes to happen again.

The score was 0-0 at the start of the second inning. Throughout the second inning, the boys made small mistakes that led them to give away five runs, leaving the score at 0-5 by the end of the inning. In the innings that followed, they only gave up two more runs.

“We started off strong, but the small errors and walks in the second inning lead to a bad game,” Trevor Borses ‘18 said.

After this game, the boys have learned from the errors that allowed Anderson to gain five runs in the second inning, but now they feel even more prepared for the next time that they play Anderson.

Throughout the last five innings in the game the boys held Anderson off pretty well, only giving two more runs, leaving the final score of the game at 7-1. The boys feel that this game was unfortunate because of all the many little mistakes that happened, and if they had thrown a better second inning, they could have won that game. This game was the first of many so they can use these lessons as a learning experience to put into their games to come.

“I feel like we definitely should’ve won that game. We have a lot of talent on our team and let that one get away from us,” Reed Harrington ‘18 said.

These boys fought long and hard against Anderson offense, but couldn’t hold them as well as they could have. These mistakes gave the boys a good learning experience, and now feel better prepared for their next tournament over spring break.
