Softball Season Ends

With the stands packed and rally caps on the varsity softball team had their first playoff game on Thursday against Hays with the home field advantage. The ladies went in with a strong start but were forced to reschedule the rest of their game due to weather complications. The rest of the game was moved to the following day in Hays. Their hard work continued to show but even with their determination, they had an unfortunate loss of 6-1. They played again on Saturday and suffered another harsh loss of 5-0 ending their time in playoffs. After the game, many tears were shed for Jamie Endel ’16 and Rylee Espinoza ‘16, who ended their careers of playing softball with that game, and the team reflected on their past games, giving insight on the mistakes that cost them.

 

“There were a couple of walks and a couple of big hitters in both games, which meant we had to pitch around them so that they wouldn’t get a hit,” Adrianna Madison ‘18 said. “They kind of shut us out on hitting. We just weren’t getting on base as much as we should have.”

Due to the fact that the girls know what they faltered on in the game, they know now what they have to work on for next year. Despite not having done as well as they hoped to, the Lady Warriors stayed positive about the fact that they made playoffs for the first time in many years.

“It was really sad because we hadn’t made it to playoffs for four years. It was still exciting because we at least made it to the first round,” Charese Wyatt ‘17 said. “I feel that this past game wasn’t one of our best, but I don’t feel that we gave up; we were fighting till the end.”

With the majority of the team coming back next year, they are hopeful about returning to playoffs and going farther than this year.
