The JV  boys’ soccer team faced off twice on Friday, Jan. 13 in the Georgetown tournament; against the Leander Lions and the East View Patriots. Earlier in the day the Warriors defeated the Lions 2-0 and tied the Patriots later that day (1-1).

“We worked hard during this weeks practice on organizing our back line,” goalkeeper Anthony Brocato ‘18 said. “Since a 3-5-2 formation is new to most people on the team they weren’t used to playing without a fourth defender.”

Given only 30 minutes for each half during this tournament instead of 45 minutes in a regular season game, the boys had more shots on goal in the first half due to quick-passing and  keeping possession of the ball. 20 minutes into the first half the Warriors had an incredible goal by Niko Harris ‘18. Unfortunately, during the last few minutes of the second half the Patriots managed to slip a goal past the Warriors, ending the half tied 1-1.

The Warriors started off the second half with a kickoff from the center of the field and began maintaining possession of the ball. Towards the middle of the half, both teams were working hard trying to get another goal to take the lead. Although the boys didn’t score another goal they definitely had some chances, and with great work from the defensive line they didn’t let the Patriots get in another goal, ending the game with a 1-1 tie.

“The most exciting part of the game was when we scored our goal, it had great build up and showed how good we can be, but in the second half we simply played lazy and tired,” Brocato said. “We were missing quite a few players but we still had a hard time making connecting plays to put another goal in.”
