The JV football team took on the Rouse Raiders on Thursday, Sept. 7, and sustained a long and hard fought game. After many changes in possession without scoring, the Warriors pulled through in the fourth quarter to win 6-0 against the Raiders.

In the first quarter, Kameron Colvin ‘20 made a 20-yard catch to give the Warriors a first down. Later at the 1:03 mark, Colvin also made another catch to move the Warriors farther up the field.

“The game was great. Long, hard, well fought, pretty good on both sides I’d say,” Colvin said. “I did pretty good, I did the best I could, wish I would’ve scored, but I’m just glad we won.”

After a turnover to Westwood in the start of the second quarter, at the 35-yard line, Miller Bursk ‘20 received a pass from quarterback Connor Cooper ‘20 to bring a first down to the Warriors. However, they were intercepted by the Raiders at the 6:10 mark. When the Warriors got possession back, Colvin received a 10-yard pass, and Tre Guerra ‘20 forced through the Rouse defense for a 30-yard carry.

Johnangel Luna ‘19 took down the Rouse running back twice in the third quarter, but the Warriors were intercepted at the 14-yard line. The score was 0-0 throughout the entire quarter as both teams held each other out of the end zone.

“I think the game went well, we kept the ball on offense more, and defense did one hell of a job,” Luna said. “The fact that we held them, kept them until the fourth down, and stopped them.”

In the fourth quarter, Ryan Bassett ‘19 received a 10-yard pass from Cooper to score the first and only touchdown of the game. Later, Nathan Potter ‘20 retrieved a kickoff the Warriors performed to take back possession of the ball. In the last five minutes, both Ben Jensen ‘19 and Luna were able to sack the Rouses’ quarterback and prevent the Raiders from scoring to bring the final score to 6-0.

“I think it went really well, we did really well on both sides of the ball. We were really consistent, we messed up a little bit a few times, but overall, we got the win. Defense played real hard, (I am) really proud of them,” Bassett said. “I was so excited. My first touchdown of the season and I couldn’t be happier.”

The Warriors take on the Leander Lions on Wednesday, Sept. 13 at Bible Stadium. Go Wood.
