Students Showcase Talents at Homecoming Pep Rally
Cheerleaders are hyped up as they welcome the students entering the gym for the homecoming pep rally. The cheerleaders had the drum line backing them up and supplying them with fun energetic beats to move and perform to. With smiling faces, the cheerleaders made sure to make people feel welcome at this event.
Cheer team impresses the crowd with their stunts. The cheerleaders truly worked together and performed as a team, and performed gracefully and safely.
Warrior Pride supplies the tribe with another great performance. Warrior Pride wowed the student body with it’s leaps into the air in hopes of keeping up the school spirit. Warrior Pride kept school spirit up off the floor as they cheered eagerly for everyone who performed or went on the gym floor.
The SunDancers amaze the crowd with their energetic hip-hop moves to a well known song. Despite the parade being canceled due to a storm, the tribe enjoyed the performances of the SunDancers. The crowd cheered and got into the dance as the SunDancers lived up to their reputation of amazing performances.
Under severe weather threat, the annual homecoming parade was cancelled on Thursday, Oct. 24, due to safety concerns. Principal Dr. Mario Acosta, the campus administration, and Student Council spent the morning brainstorming alternatives to combat the unpredictable weather, but eventually decided on proceeding with the pep rally festivities in the Field House.
“We were definitely disappointed, because we really wanted to go around the neighborhoods, and it was fun to see all of the other club floats, but there’s always next year,” Warrior Pride dancer Sakshi Dhavalikar ‘21 said.
Though unexpected weather surprises had been a challenge to work around in previous years, all of Westwood’s hard work did not go unnoticed, as Warrior Pride, SunDancers, and cheerleaders continued to rally support, animating the Field House with cheers of encouragement and support.
“I thought it was really fun, I was a little nervous at first because it was scary seeing so many people in the audience, but I think they responded positively to the dance performance,” Dhavalikar said.
Showcasing the program diversity among the student body has always been a tradition, culminating months of planning and crafting to create club floats, hallway decorations, and the recognition of the nobility and court. Even under last minute changes, students still managed to pull off an impressive performance, making this year’s homecoming pep rally one to remember.
