With all the uncertainty around Halloween due to COVID-19, many families have opted out of fun activities such as parties or trick-or-treating. However, there are still many safe opportunities around Austin to experience spooky surprises.

2020 Drive-Thru Trunk or Treat

If you’re looking for a safe alternative to standing outside for a car parade, the 2020 Drive-Thru Trunk or Treat event hosted by the Round Rock Operation Blue Santa and the Round Rock Police is a great option. Instead of standing on the side of the road waiting for decorated cars to pass by, families will be staying in their car, driving past fully decorated trunks. This free event, located at the Round Rock Public Safety Training Center, is taking place on Saturday, Oct. 24, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Tunnel of Terror Haunted Car Wash

This event, taking place on Sunday, Oct. 25, is a great way to enjoy a haunted house without getting out of your car. As you stroll through the car wash, many familiar Halloween faces will pop up out of nowhere. Located at 2301 South Interstate 35, this event includes a live DJ and a costume contest. The carwash fee is $15.

Trick or Treat Trail hosted by Healing With Horses Ranch

Looking for a fun family activity to get you off your feet? The Trick or Treat Trail hosted by Healing with Horses Ranch is the perfect place to go. The event starts from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31 and is free for all ages. This ranch has easy and accessible trails for people wanting to ride horses, perfect for any level of rider. Besides the trail, the event also includes a scavenger hunt and a gift shop.

Fab-BOO-lous Full Moon Paddle

Another family activity to get yourselves out of the house is the Fab-BOO-lous Full Moon Paddle located at the Rowing Dock at Lady Bird Lake. People will be able to kayak around the lake to different trick-or-treat stations while still socially distancing. A DJ, photo booth, costume contest, and refreshments will also be there. The event takes place on Saturday, Oct. 31 beginning at 5 p.m. and ending at 9 p.m. People may arrive and leave at whatever time they please.

The Nightmare Before Christmas Community Drive-In

With the holiday season coming up, many people have gotten an early start to Christmas festivities. This drive-in event provides a great opportunity to watch movies with friends while still staying safe. Located at Community First! Village, it will have popcorn, candy, and drinks available on a first come first serve basis for guests. The Nightmare Before Christmas will be playing. This event takes place on Friday, Oct. 16, from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Admission is $20 per person.

Even though this year brings a lot of uncertainty, there are still a lot of fun, socially distanced activities available within the community. Holidays are a time to relax and let loose, so go have some fun and have a scary and safe Halloween!
