With Halloween just a day away, scary movies are in the freshest season. Sitting down with a bowl of popcorn and binge watching scary movies is the perfect way to get into the Halloween spirit. I have compiled a list of 5 of my favorite horror movies which I feel are all versatile and perfectly display different types of horror to help you get into the spooky spirit this year!
1) The Shining (1980)
This movie is a classic in the horror realm. It’s not only extremely eerie, but also carries a very interesting plot. The movie surrounds a family that volunteers to watch over a hotel during an extremely cold winter alone. As time passes in the hotel, the isolation gets to the members of the family, and crazy things start to happen which make you wonder if what is happening is real or supernatural. This movie is one of my favorite movies of all time and is perfect to watch on a rainy or cool day.
2) IT (2017)
IT is an amazingly horrific movie because it goes through so many different types of horror through one movie alone. Pennywise was able to understand all of the kids’ biggest fears and use it against them. I think this is a perfect movie to watch during Halloween time because it has a surreal amount of jumpscares and the production of the movie itself is extremely eerie. It also had lots of comedy in it making the movie a perfect mix of everything.
3) The Lost Boys (1987)
I believe The Lost Boys is one of the most underrated horror movies out there. It follows a family who moves to a new city in California, unaware of the creepy presence that lives there. The 2 brothers of the film have speculated that there are vampires in the town, and one of them accidentally becomes involved with the vampires. This movie is so beautiful to me because it has that 80s filter/feeling to it which I love. It is an amazing representation of an 80s horror movie, being scary but also a very fun watch.
4) Carrie (1976)
Carrie is such a beautifully horrific and sad story. The story follows Carrie growing up in an extremely isolated and religious household while also having to deal with bullying at school. As her internal anger builds up continuously, she finds out she has telekinetic powers. Later letting them out on her classmates on their prom night.
5) The Silence of the Lambs (1991)
The Silence of the Lambs is an extremely entertaining movie which had me on my toes the entire time. It follows an FBI agent who follows the case of an active serial killer named Buffalo Bill. She gets help from an inmate, Hannibal, who used to be a serial killer and had answers for her regarding the investigation of Buffalo Bill because he used to know him. While investigating Buffalo Bills case, the FBI agent gets trapped in his web herself and has to find her way out. This is an extremely spooky movie and it also inspired me to want to be an FBI agent for a while.
