During preseason play, the Warriors’ varsity baseball team took on the Westlake Chaparrals in a scrimmage on Friday, Feb. 16. The Warriors were consistent on getting men out on-base, thanks to hits by Reed Harrington ‘18 and Will Clitheroe ‘19. Multiple pitchers got time on the mound tonight, including Nicky Manasso ‘18 and Nathan Potter ‘20. The Warriors were enthusiastic from the dugout to the field, as they cheered on their teammates and played against familiar faces. But after eleven innings, the Warriors lost 8-5.

“As a team we really need to work on our two strike approach at the plate and making the routine plays on defense routine,” Harrington said. “Too many simple mental mistakes made tonight. If we can cut them down and get our approaches right I think we’ll be real contenders come district.

As the season begins, players are trying new positions and this game allowed the team to continue working out kinks. With the loss of players in the beginning of the season, other boys on the team had to step up to fill the empty positions such as Ian Cox ‘19 playing catcher.

The Warrior will continue their preseason play with a tournament at Barber Hills High School on Feb. 22 at 4:30 p.m..
