A Valentine’s Dance was organized in the Westwood cafeteria on Friday, Feb. 16. FAC students from all over the district got together to spend an evening with all their friends and let loose for the night.

“This dance was put together as a way to give our district’s FAC students a fun high school dance experience,” Sophia Unite ‘20 said. “The students could attend [the dance] in a more comfortable environment and have an event that’s all about them.”

Before the dance, students from both National Honors Society and Student Council worked together and decorated the cafeteria with banners, streamers, and lights. The tables were filled with paper hearts to get the kids in the spirit, and there were stations for arts and crafts so the students could make cards for the people they cared about.

“National Honor Society and Student Council wanted to help set up the dance so that we would have more people to decorate and make the event more awesome and fun for the kids,” Nuha Momin ‘19 said.

Many students involved in programs with the special needs kids chose to volunteer at the dance to make the experience more memorable for them.

“I am involved in Partners in PE, so I get to work with the special needs kids everyday,” Sara Sayyar ‘20 said. “When I heard there was an opportunity to meet new students from around the district, I was very excited to volunteer.”

The students danced the night away to classic group songs like Cupid Shuffle by Cupid and famous pop songs like Havana by Camila Cabello.

“I had such a great time with everyone,” Sayyar said. “For me, the most memorable part of the night was seeing all the kids dancing together and just having such a good time with all their friends. It was so touching to be able to witness that, and I really hope I can be apart of this again.”
