An informational night for parents and students from Canyon Vista Middle School and Grisham Middle School was held at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 2. First,  eighth grade students and parents gathered in the cafetorium

for a brief presentation given by current high school seniors.

“I think this is a really great opportunity for eighth graders to learn more about Westwood,” Sakshi Dhavalikar ‘21 said. “I’m sure that they have tons of questions about Westwood is like, and the different programs we have to offer. It’s just a great way for them to learn more and see what the different things are and broaden their horizons on Westwood, in general.”

After the presentation, students and parents proceeded to the gymnasium where current course offerings were set up with student speakers around the room. Here, students could ask questions and learn about the different courses that they could take in high school.

“I think this event was a really great opportunity for the eighth graders and their parents to take it easy and not stress out about Westwood,” Kelsia Adil ‘19 said. “Compared to last year, I noticed that there [are] a lot of parents, and I really enjoyed talking to them.”

To conclude the night, parents and students returned back to the cafetorium to hear from Mr. Acosta, who welcomed and thanked parents for attending the event. The eighth graders then headed home after a night of learning about various courses and general student life at Westwood.

“This was a lot of fun for both students and parents because they got to go around and see all of the options that we have,” Elinor Krits ‘19 said. “Hopefully, it will release some of that stress and anxiety that they have been having about high school.”
