On Friday, March 15, the Academy of Visual and Performing Arts hosted a panel with game designers and animators. The panel members consisted of Carmen Askerneese, Gary Garner, and Cameron Colder. They answered questions from students and the Academy Ambassadors about their careers. Students learned about what it took to find employment in this industry, and how to adapt to this constantly changing field.

“We wanted to form a more direct and personal connection with our partners and our students,” Nicole Boisseau ‘20 said. “So we came up with the idea to have this panel. I really enjoyed getting to talk to the professionals and watching the panel attendees’ curiosity grow — the panel seemed to help them feel more comfortable in their plans for the future.”

The panelists came from a wide variety of backgrounds, their work ranging from working on apps at IBM, to designing sports games for Madden, to helping students find a career path at the college level.

“I think [the panel] went really well,” Boisseau said. “Two of the partners offered to give tours of their workplaces to Westwood students in the future, so that’s definitely something to look forward to.”
