External Threat Announced, Lockdown Issued
Westwood High School went on lockdown for an external threat at 1:35 p.m. on Wednesday, April 2. The lockdown occurred halfway through seventh block. Mrs. Kim Hodge promptly announced to disregard any bells, to not go to second lunch, and instructed teachers to lock the doors and keep students in class. An email with information regarding the lockdown was sent to parents, stating that all students and staff are safe and secure inside the building.
“When the lockdown started I felt kinda stressed because school threats are so prevalent nowadays that it’s a real issue,” Dia Jain ’21 said. “The school did a good job of keeping students in classrooms, and the classroom atmosphere was really comforting because everyone calmed each other down.”
Principal Mario Acosta has made preparation for such events an important part of the school’s preemptive strategy. This situation is still developing. Updates will be posted as we get them.
Update 3:15 p.m.
The lockdown has been lifted and a modified schedule has been sent to teachers for the rest of the day. Students will be in eighth block from 3:20 to 4:20 p.m.
