The JV football team took on the Round Rock Dragons on Thursday, Oct. 20 at the Warrior Bowl. The team fought hard and remained positive, but fell short in offensive drives which resulted in a 8-39 loss.

To start the game, defense came out strong with Ben Jensen ‘19 and Zeke Buraimoh ‘18 holding Round Rock players back. However, the Dragons kicked a field goal and then ran a touchdown after recovering a Warrior fumble. The offense fought to make plays, but came up short which resulted in Round Rock offense scoring once more in the first quarter. In the second quarter, Ian Cox ‘19 was able to throw multiple first downs to Mohan Hegde ‘19 before the ball was intercepted by Round Rock. The Warriors remained behind at halftime 0-25.

“I think my team played well,” Cox said. “We just have to keep working at practice every week to get better.”

For the second half, the team started well with a touchdown from Cox and a successful two point conversion by Akhil Akshintala ‘18. Back on defense, Zach Goodall ‘18 held back Round Rock’s quarterback, but Round Rock scored again to bring the score to 8-32 at the end of third. To start the fourth quarter, Luca Mazzola ‘19 received Round Rock’s punt and ran for 30 yards. The offense got to a fourth down, but Cox punted the ball back to the Dragons. In the last 20 seconds of the game, Round Rock scored again, which ended the game with a score of 8-39.

“I think we’ll pay more attention to the little things, both on offense and defense in practice,” Mazzola said. “We make small mistakes in our games which messes up our chemistry and flow to everything. If we we can get a flow to develop I think we have the ability to win some games.”
