Westwood United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) Club made blankets for victims of Hurricane Harvey after school on Dec 14 in the Lecture Hall. The project lasted for a couple of hours, during which they made eight blankets.

“It’s just a really easy way to give back to the community in Texas,” club president Lilly Swank ‘19 said. “It’s fun seeing everyone come together and have a bunch of fun in trying to figure out how to tackle the challenge of making blankets together on a large scale.”

In the past, UNICEF Club has made blankets for the Stop Abuse For Everyone (SAFE) baby drive in Austin, Texas. The club made blankets out of two six-feet-long pieces of fleece that they cut and tied together. Along with the eight blankets they made in the Lecture Hall, the club also has two other blankets they made in previous meetings.

“I just really liked how we got to hang out with friends while helping other people,” Isabel Cameron ‘19 said.

Westwood UNICEF Club meets every other Wednesday in room E2114. You can also follow the Westwood UNICEF Club on Instagram (@westwoodunicef) and Twitter (@westwood_unicef).
