Released on Friday, March 13, 'Slanted' shines a light on internalized racism in teenage Asian diaspora through the satirical body horror genre. The film follows Chinese American teenager Joan Huang in her journey before, during, and after receiving ethnic modification surgery in order to be more white, securing social status and her ultimate dream: prom queen. Though 'Slanted' falls flat in its plain messaging, the film ultimately unearths wounds caused by racism that America attempted to bury in the 2010s.
