Westwood’s newest club, Book Club, met for the first time on Wednesday, October 30. Together, the members of the club decided to begin by reading The Book Thief. Sophomore Marwa Gujarathi, president of the club, strongly encourages anyone with a passion for reading to join. She started the club as a way for students of all grades to come together and discuss their favorite books.
Book club will also provide help with English to people of all grades. They plan on reading Wonder, The Mortal Instruments series, Divergent, and many more. They will also read classics to provide practice for analyzing school-assigned books. For anyone who needs volunteer hours, the members also plan on visiting elementary schools to read to the kids there.
“I really like the idea of a book club that also does volunteer work. I don’t have much time to read on my own anymore but this club gives me an opportunity to do what I love,” said freshman Shruti Patil.
Meetings are every other Wednesday in room E2210, Ms. Bramlett’s room. Contact [email protected] or join the Westwood Book Club Facebook group for more information.
