The majority of dance is taking a field trip to the Round Rock ISD Performing Arts Center (PAC) on Wednesday, Nov. 12 to watch the Kathy Dunn Hamrick Dance Company perform. The Kathy Dunn Hamrick is a local, modern dance company that performs in Austin and tours extensively throughout Texas. They use personal experiences and encounters to choreograph pieces to connect with the audience. Both middle school and high school dance classes were invited. They have held productions in several major North American cities as well.
“We’re mixing it up, just trying to expose different styles and Kathy Dunn Hamrick has worked really closely with RRISD and she approached us for performing this year,” dance teacher Mrs. Angelique Scrudder said.
Every year, the dance department goes to All District Dance where they bring in different dance companies for the students to watch. The ballet classes last year had the opportunity to see Metamorphosis Ballet Company.
The dance program tries to have one field trip for every genre they study.
“I am excited for the field trip because I haven’t really seen that many modern dances. It’s usually just ballet that I see so I am really excited to be exposed to that,” Zoe Morris ‘18 said. “I have never taken a modern class either so maybe I will be inspired to take a modern class after this.”
