On March 6 and 7, Sundancers hosted their annual Escapade performance. The show proved to be a success, drawing many friends, family, and administration and staff on both nights. The entire dance department was featured during the show, including Warrior Pride and the Baby Sundancers.
This year’s theme was Story Telling, featured by the variety of dances and choreography. Dances such as Dr. Seuss, the March of the Dancing Soldiers, and Hercules portrayed kept the crowd engaged and entertained.
“I loved the theme!” Sundancer Rookie Katherine Overstreet ‘17 said. “I liked it because there was a lot of creative flexibility, so the choreographers could make the dance like anything because anything can tell a story.”
A lot went into preparation for Escapade from all the dance students. Many long hours and dedication were required to make the show a success. Without the collective efforts from the students, teachers, staff, and volunteers, the show could not have thrived. Although Escapade required planning a year in advance, it was an experience everyone can cherish.
“My favorite part was just performing the whole dance itself from the beginning to the end, and working with everyone throughout all the many weeks of training,” Jazz 3 student Haarika Somarouthu ‘16 said.
Both nights began with Opener to “Where No One Goes” and was followed by various dances from Dance, Ballet and Jazz classes. There were also split dances and sophomore, junior, and senior dances performed by the Sundancers. The line officers, Hype, and J-Co companies that are apart of Sundancers were also featured, utilizing different styles of dance.
“Escapade is so much fun because we do all different kinds of dance, whereas in football season we do just drill dances,” Sundancer Senior Katie Dagel ‘15 said.
In the middle, there was a ten minute intermission followed by a Social Skit put together by the Sundancer Social Officers. They and the Baby Sundancers got the crowd pumped up and dancing with some classics such as the “YMCA” and “Macarena”.
The night was ended with the Baby Sundancers and the Sundancers performing to the song “Respect”.
“Escapade was really exciting. It actually went by really quick because you have a lot of adrenaline, and so it just goes by so fast,” Overstreet said. “But it was so fun!”
Senior dancers will be missed, but now they will have a cherished story to tell.
“The best part about Sundancers is seeing all your friends everyday, and so I am going to miss having them right there all the time,” Dagel said.
Overall, this year’s Escapade was prosperous, creating many memories and experiences.
“Just being able to be on stage with everyone that I danced with for a year was really fun,” Warrior Pride Dancer Mikayla Harris ‘18 said. “We have a lot in mind for next Escapade, so we all are really excited for that!”
