All across the district, middle schools and high schools are changing their lunch menus as the school year kicks up again. Whether for good or for naught, students without lunch from home have become mini-food critics and the subject of their taste is none other than the daily cafeteria cuisine. But what do they think about the food? Has anyone really asked? Is the food secretly terrible, or is it surprisingly good?
The Round Rock ISD Food services claim that “[the cafeteria] serve[s] fresh quality nutritious food that meets USDA guidelines and delivers an enjoyable student dining experience. Providing all students access to a healthy lifestyle with nutrition education and delicious nutritionally balanced meals is why we do it,” but is that what the students view? What do the students who buy lunch at Westwood view the food to be? Is the “healthy menu” more important than taste, or does the cafeteria find a good balance of both? Does the appearance give off the wrong impression? How good is the cafeteria food? As an interview, the questions have been separated into 4 categories, and it’s up to you to decide whether the cafeteria food meets the district goals.
So, for those who haven’t tasted the cafeteria food this year, make sure to give it a try and come to your own opinion on its taste and quality. Fortunately, if students do not enjoy the cafeteria selections, the district changes the food menus annually, so there will always be something new to try next year. Hopefully, every student will eventually find something that they enjoy at the cafeteria.
