The JV tennis team made an incredible win against the Pflugerville Panthers in their district semi-final match on Wednesday, Oct. 28 at Pflugerville High School. The match ended in a 10-0 win for Westwood, and the Warriors were able to bring home yet another victory.

“I think we did really well overall,” Carson Manley ‘17 said. “I’m definitely very proud of my team. Since we won 10 matches in a row, we didn’t have to play the other nine to win.”

Because the match was for the UIL District Team Tennis Semi-Finals, the JV tennis team were required to play by UIL rules, which differed from their usual style of play. In a UIL match, the first team to win 10 matches is the victor. Regularly, a match is set up so that everyone has the chance to compete, but because only 10 matches took place, not everyone on the team was able to play. However, team members thought that though the rules were unfortunate, the most important thing is making a team effort.

“What’s fun about tennis is that we’re a team,” Ella Concannon ‘18 said. “You’ve got to work for the team. If one person wins, but everyone else doesn’t do well, it’s not good, but if everyone does well, but one person doesn’t, it’s okay.”

Although not all players had a chance to shine, those who were able to place in a match felt that the competition went well. Jake Imperial ‘19 and his partner Avery Turner ‘18 fought hard in their doubles match and were able to win 8-0.

“We had a lot of good points when I was at the net,” Jake Imperial ‘19 said. “Our opponents were good, so it was really fun.”

The JV team will play in the District Finals on Tuesday, Nov. 3 at Westwood. Students are encouraged to watch the match and cheer our Warriors on.
