The varsity boys’ basketball went on to play their second district game on Jan. 6. Facing a tough district this year, the Warriors would go on to play Rouse head first. Being the undersized team the Warriors are, they had to change the ways they played; the shortest person Rouse had was 6’2”.
“I knew it was going to be a challenge because it would be an offensive and defensive game but it came down to fundamentals, taking care of the ball, taking charges, and boxing out when we need to and keeping those big guys out the paint,” Colton Hendricks ‘16 said.
Hendricks was injured during the game, but still managed to come back in and be an asset.
“The reason I came back into the game was because it is my senior year and I want to help my team win games,” Hendricks said. “I knew if I came back in and played my hardest it would show the younger guys that hard work and hustle pays off.”
The score was 26-25 with the Warriors up by one coming into the second half, when they went on a 10-0 run led by Julian Hodges ‘16. Rouse tried to get back into the game, but Hodges had an answer for every play. Making consecutive three-point plays, the Warriors went into the fourth leading 49-38 with a minute left to play. Going 4-4 from three-point range and having a career high of 33 points, Hodges was giving all he had to the team.
“It was a must-win game and I had to put the team on my back. I did everything in my will for us to win,” Hodges said.
With the final score coming out to be 72-65, the Warriors remain undefeated.
