Boys Varsity Soccer Ties with Cedar Ridge in Last Game of Season

On Friday, March 11, the boys varsity soccer team (7-2-5) played against Cedar Ridge (3-5-6) and ended the game with a tie at 1-1. This was the last game of the season, and the Warriors needed a win to move on to playoffs.

“We played the best we could, and we were expecting a win, but we couldn’t come out with it,” Adam Homza ‘16 said.

In the first half, there were some strong defensive plays, led by Liam Matsumoto ‘17, player #0, and Tyler Tinker ‘16, player #4. There was also a few saves by the goalie, player #1, Josh Burton ‘16. The team had a few offensive plays, but the half ended with a score of 1-0, Cedar Ridge.

“I think we played well, we just didn’t finish the opportunities that we had, but the other team played really well too,” Eduardo Rodriguez ‘19 said.

The second half was intense, with a goal in the 11th minute for the Warriors. The offense was led by Matsumoto, who helped the team catch up with Cedar Ridge. But what really helped the Warriors in the second half were the plays made by Burton. He made two saves nearing the end of the game, preventing Cedar Ridge from pulling ahead and ultimately ending the game in a tie.

“The game was not perfect, but it was great, because it was the last game for the school I love and I got the last chance to play with all of my friends,” Marcos Bergami ‘16 said.

Even though the Warriors didn’t win, they still ended the season with a tie, with an overall season record of seven wins, two ties, and five losses. This was the last game for the team as a whole, though the Warriors look forward to their next season.
