After an especially close game the Lady Warriors triumphed against the Cedar Ridge Raiders, winning their first district game. With the final score of 53-51 the Warriors demonstrated great teamwork and determination and pulled through in the fourth quarter of the game against their tough opponents on Tuesday, December 6.

“It was a huge win for us because last year we lost to them both home and away,” Christie French ‘19 said. “ It was also big because we’re coming off with a strong win in our first district game.”

The game began with the Raiders winning the tip-off, but that didn’t stop the Warriors from keeping the score close throughout the first quarter. The Warriors began racking up points with great offense from French and Annalise Galliguez ‘20.

Starting the second quarter the Raiders were up by five, but the Warriors kept playing hard. By the end of the half the Warriors were still down by five with a score of 24-29.

“I think that we played really well even when we were down we came back because we never stopped trying,” Sonali Dayal ‘19 said. “I think that we did really well in preseason which motivated us to do our best in district too.”

Despite the Raiders scoring multiple points through the third quarter, the Lady Warriors kept a strong defense while still managing to accumulate points. By the end of the third quarter the Raiders were still up by five.

Beginning the fourth quarter, the Warriors were determined to take away the the Raiders’ slim lead. Throughout the tense fourth quarter with hard effort put in by the whole team, the Lady Warriors were neck and neck with the Raiders. Coming into the final seconds of the game Galliguez  shot the last two points of the game leading her team to victory in their first district game.

“We played together as a team and we transitioned well,” Galliguez said. “When I took the last shot it was nerve racking at first because I didn’t know if it was going to go in or not but it went in and overall was a great game.”

This game proved that when every team that puts a hundred percent in during the game, even if the team is behind they will get their desired outcomes. After putting in so much hard work the Warriors ended with a final score of 53-51 in this tense game.

Come support your Lady Warriors at their next game on Friday, Dec. 9 against the Lake Travis Cavaliers.
