The JV girls’ basketball team faced off against the Round Rock Dragons on Jan. 13 at Round Rock High School.

The game was very close as the Dragons only led the Lady Warriors by a few points. In the end, the Dragons were able to take the win with a final score of 34-40. Jenny Todd ‘19 did well on offense by scoring eight points and getting seven rebounds, while Makayla Coy ‘19 dominated both offense and defense with 13 points, 12 rebounds, and four steals. Izzy Barber ‘19 also did well leading in assists with two.

The first quarter was close as the Dragons only led in score with no more than two points. Barber did good as well as Sonali Dayal ‘19 in blocking shots and stealing balls which helped keep the score close. The first quarter ended with a score of 15-16 with the Dragons in the lead.

“The first quarter was pretty hard,” Lilly Swank ‘19 said.”We tried our best and we kept the score close so that was good.”

The second quarter started off strong for the Lady Warriors as they were able to get their points back with three-pointers from Annalise Galliguez ‘20 and great defense by Coy. The quarter had its turnovers and ups and downs but the Lady Warriors managed to come out on top with a score of 22-21.

“We did really well at the end of the first half,” Dayal said. “I felt like now that we were in the lead, we would just stay in the lead.”

The Lady Warriors came back from the half pumped up and were able to sustain the lead until the end of the third quarter. With great offensive plays by Todd and Coy, the Warriors were able to sustain their lead until the very end.

During the fourth quarter, the Dragons obtained the lead but not without a fight from the Lady Warriors. Archita Sivakumar ‘18 shined in this quarter by getting three steals. The game was very close but sadly, the Dragons were able to snatch the win.

“We slipped up a little at the end but we tried our hardest and that is what really matters,” Coy said. “We will beat them next time.”

The JV Lady Warriors will face off against Pflugerville next on Tuesday, Jan. 17 at the home courts.
