Varsity Softball Misses Out Against Round Rock
In their final game of the week, the varsity softball team fell 0-10 to Round Rock High School on Tuesday, March 14.
Despite failing to produce runs, the Lady Warriors maintained a great defense and allowed only one run in the first inning. However, for the majority of the game, the Lady Warriors struggled to make contact with the Dragons’ pitches and did not hold a very strong offense. Two strikeouts and a pop up by Charese Wyatt ‘17 quickly ended their at bat in bottom of the first.
“We tried to push through with all that we had,” Lizzie Taylor ‘18 said. “We did everything we could but it didn’t come out the way we wanted it to.”
For the remainder of the game, the Warriors continued to strikeout offensively and were unable to get on base. The Dragons ended the game with 10 runs.
First baseman Taylor, however, believes the team is in need of a mental recovery and will win their upcoming game following spring break.
“We’ve been at it for a long time now-every week of practice and all those games and tournaments,” Taylor said. “This break will help us reset our minds and get back to the game so we can think out everything and make sure we know what we’re doing when game time comes.”
Although the night ended on a sorrow note, head coach Tiffany Gates expressed an optimistic outlook on the effort put in by the team and maintains her goal in pursuing success this season.
“I thought our kids fought hard,” Coach Gates said. “They stayed up and stayed positive. They never gave up.”
Team members walked out with much grief that night, yet claimed they still hold their determination to have a good season. Players, such as Taylor, have attributed to the seniors as sources of motivation.
“We have got to keep pushing for our seniors,” Taylor said. “It’s their last season and we have to push for them and keep going for them.”
Overall, both the team and their coaches plan to continue their efforts and defeat Pflugerville in their next game Tuesday, March 21.
“As long as we stay positive and we keep working hard, I think we’ll be okay,” Coach Gates said.
