JV Football Takes Down Stony Point 27-6

The JV football team faced the Stony Point Tigers and persevered to win 27-6 on Thursday, Oct. 19. The Warrior defense kept the Tigers out of the endzone for the majority of the game while the offense worked hard to move forward with each possession.  

“I got a fumble recovery overall, a couple tackles, a lot of trash talking, and just, a win,” Dylan Vorpahl ‘20 said. “We killed them with four turnovers, overall, well played.”

The first quarter started off with many changes of possession until Kameron Colvin ‘20 scored the first touchdown of the game with 3 minutes 48 seconds left in the quarter. Later, Cesar Estrada ‘20 caught the Tigers’ attempted pass, giving the Warriors possession of the ball.

“It [the interception] was pretty cool, I was hoping to go further after the pick, but it’s whatever,” Estrada said.

Starting off the second quarter, Colvin completed another pass to score the second touchdown of the game to bring the score to 14-0. In a two-point conversion attempt, Fox Piercy ‘19 took the Stony Point quarterback down to prevent the Tigers from completing their play.

“Defense did great, we just out performed theirs, and that’s all there is to it, we just played harder,” Piercy said. “I feel great about how I did, but I’ll see in field tomorrow how many mistakes I make and get better.”

Beginning the third quarter in the lead, Ben Jensen ‘19 tackled a Stony Point quarterback to force a fumble that Johnangel Luna ‘19 picked up. Then, toward the middle of the third quarter, Connor Cooper ‘20 ran the ball into the endzone to bring the score to 20-6.

“It was good, but there’s always an opportunity for improvement like the small things,” Colvin said. “It’s easy to overlook the small things that you can improve on.”

In the beginning of the fourth quarter, Tre Guerra ‘20 was able to squeeze through the Tigers’ defensive line to score the final touchdown of the night. The defense pushed through and forced another fumble that was picked up by Vorpahl. Within the last twenty seconds of the game, Jace Lyne ‘20 intercepted the Tigers, bringing the game to an end with a score of 27-6.

“We played pretty good, we only let six points, offense also played a lot of good,” Lyne said. “I felt like I could’ve taken it [the interception] longer.”

The Warriors will take on the Round Rock Dragons at the Dragon Stadium on Thursday, Oct. 26 at 5 p.m..
