National French Honor Society (NFHS) held a gift wrapping session on Monday, Dec. 11 for their Spirit of Giving Holiday Project. This year, the organization decided to sponsor a family of five from Manor, Texas.

The father of the family is a wounded veteran with two daughters and a son. The daughters are 15 and 20, and the son is 18. NFHS collected gift cards to provide groceries and basic needs for the family and wrapped donated gifts for the mother and children.

“We made sure that all the gifts were super pretty and tried to get into the holiday spirit,” Aldrian Widjaja ‘18 said.

Each of the children created a wish list, mainly including items such as jewelry, clothes, and college dormitory items for the oldest daughter. During the session, NFHS members wrapped and organized the donated gifts for each of the family members. Festive ribbons and label stickers gave volunteers the chance to be more creative with wrapping the gifts.

“I wanted to volunteer, because in NFHS, we don’t get to do a lot of activities that directly influence someone in need like [the gift wrapping session],” Widjaja said. “I wanted to be involved in something that will help make someone’s holidays much better.”
