Varsity Cross Country Places 5th In Austin ISD Meet
The cross country team competed in their second meet this year at Walter E. Long Lake on Friday morning, Aug. 31. Twenty schools competed, and the varsity boys’ team placed 5th overall while many other runners had strong individual results.
“The girls’ teams improved overall since the last meets, like everyone got roughly 40 seconds better, which is very promising for their second meet of the year,” Linette Page ‘19 said. “We were able to spend time cheering on other teams that were behind, so overall it was probably one of our better meets.”
Pablo Lomeli Lluis ‘21 placed 4th individually in the varsity boys competition, running his 5k at a personal best of 16 minutes and 4 seconds. Francesca Faillace ‘20 also got second out of the Westwood runners. The varsity boys placement is also encouraging as the boys are hoping to place at district this year.
“Since last year we’ve gotten a lot more talent, a lot of people have improved in the off season,” Zach Siegel ‘19 said. “I have high hopes for this season.”
The cross country team will compete on Sept. 7 in Pflugerville.
