IB Students Gather for Thanksgiving Celebration
On Friday, Nov. 16, the IB Student Organization (IBSO) hosted a gathering where IB students and their families could come and have an enjoyable evening before Thanksgiving Break. Not only did this relieve the students of some of the stress of the year, but it also helped to bring the IB community closer together.
“Community is about spending time with each other,” IB coordinator Ms. Stephanie Childress said. “Our conversations between each other daily are usually around academics–the Grateful Gathering let’s us know each other as more than who we are at school.”
Many students are very busy with homework and extracurriculars during school, so one thing that students especially liked about this gathering was that it gave them a chance to enjoy time with their IB friends without stressing about grades and school.
“I liked getting to hang out with my friends in IB outside of the setting, so we weren’t stressed about school, and we were just having fun,” Anaita Merchant ‘20 said.
In addition, there was an talent showcase held during the event. Drummers entertained the audience with a fast beat during the first performance. Then, a student played “Unravel” from Tokyo Ghoul on the piano, and finally Sai Kasam ‘21 sang “Thinking out Loud” by Ed Sheeran, ending the showcase.
“I think that this kind of gathering helps create a strong IB community as well as allows us to see the talents of our peers,” Akshata Badryani ‘21 said. “I thought that it was a lot of fun to hang out and talk with all the IB kids.”
Ms. Childress supported the showcase, as it is very important to her and the IB community that students have the opportunity to share their talents with their peers.
“We love showcasing talent in the IB community,” Ms. Childress said. “We made the decision to showcase talent at all IB events this year, so I was excited we had three people who were willing to perform.”
To round up the evening, there was a Thanksgiving dinner provided by all of the IB families. Overall, the IB Grateful Gathering was a success that was a great way for students, parents, and teachers to start the Thanksgiving holiday.
