Varsity Boys’ Soccer Falls to Hendrickson 2-0
On Tuesday, Jan. 15, the varsity boys’ soccer team fought against the Hendrickson Hawks in hopes of earning their first district win, but the game ended with loss of 2-0. The Warriors worked hard and stuck together in desperate times.
“The effort was there, we kept fighting until the end, it’s just the ball wouldn’t go in,” Coach Stefano Salerno said.
The first half, raining, began with attempts from both teams to take shots on goal. The Hawks attempted a goal, but Justin Lang ‘20 kept with it and saved it from going in. Within the first 15 minutes of the half, the Hawks slipped one past Lang, putting the score to 1-0.
“I know when we were in front of the goal, we couldn’t finish. For example, I took a shot and the keeper saved it and it should have gone in,” Theo Givens ‘20 said.
Starting off the second half, the Warriors were looking for a fight to win the game. Towards the beginning of the half, attempted shots were made by Givens and Niko Djordjevic ‘21. Defenders Avi Kacker ‘19 and Jack Elliot ‘19 stayed on the Hendrickson forwards, while Lang strived to save but missed, putting the score at 2-0 in the Hawks’ favor. Lalo Rodriguez ‘19 took a field kick, which was headed out of the Hawk’s goalie box by a Hendrickson player.
“We both played a tactically smart game, came off of two opportunities where we just shut down for a second, but the guys kept on fighting,” Coach Salerno said. “We need another good performance that shows that the guys are working hard and after this I want to give them a win.”
