The AIM (Aid in Motion) Club’s first meeting was on September 9 in the conference room located in the library from 4:15-4:45 p.m. As returning members and new members called out ideas for possible projects to participate in throughout the year, President Audrey Mcconnell ’16 and Vice President Shivani Patel ’16 jotted the ideas down on a whiteboard
“Last year it was difficult to get people to join our club and so it was really small,” President Audrey Mcconnell ’16 said. “Today, I was pleasantly surprised to see everyone that showed up to the meeting and I’m excited for all the things we will be able to do with the extra people.”
A club devoted to helping children in need, as well as volunteering, AIM strives to “aid” others in any way possible and has done so throughout the years.
Last year, AIM did things such as collecting box tops for elementary schools, creating scrapbooks for low-income schools in the area, as well as reading to children at various school campuses.
“The activities we participated in last year really opened my eyes to how there are some children who truly do need a helping hand,” said Vice President Shivani Patel ’16. “While I feel grateful for the things that I have, I also am excited to be helping others because it’s what I love to do.”
As the club is interested in branching out and doing a variety of new things this year, some of the ideas that the club members came up with were collecting and donating used books, volunteering at the “Special Olympics,” having a food drive, and donating stuffed animals to the Dell Children’s Hospital.
“This is the first club I’ve joined at Westwood and so far I am really excited because I love helping people, especially children,” Sarah Lobera ’18 said.
