On Monday, Sept. 22, students gathered at Round Rock High School to explore the possibilities of their future education. Round Rock ISD hosted a College Fair from 6-8 p.m. where over 200 representatives of universities provided information about their campuses.
“I wanted to see what was required for different colleges,” Swarna Radhakrishnan ‘15 said. “Also, I wanted to get information about them and build relationships with college representatives.”
The building was filled with hundreds of students, alumni, and college admission officers. The alumni and officers took time to speak to people individually and answer questions.
“I talked to some of the representatives from various schools to find out about admission rates, standards, and procedures,” Matthew Tran ‘16 said. “I also learned about some of the fraternities and clubs I didn’t know about.”
The educators provided details about scholarships, programs, and financial aid. There were many booths set up in the cafeteria where flyers and brochures were handed out.
They assisted in answering questions regarding path decisions and major and minor choices.
“I learned about the engineering/business combo programs of several schools, especially Princeton and University of Illinois,” Brian Coombs ‘16 said.
Students were able to receive the contact information for some of the colleges, allowing them to build relationships and question administrators further after the event.
The University of Texas provided a 45 minute breakout session where they discussed admissions and student life. Representatives also talked about internships that they provide for interested applicants.
“Overall, it was a good event with quite a few great colleges,” Coombs said. “It provided a way for prospective students to get a foot in the door for preferred colleges and learn about new ones, and therefore I found the event very helpful.”
