On Nov. 14, students attended the first Black Light Pep Rally.
As they filed into the big gym, students were handed glow sticks to wear as necklaces or bracelets. After announcements from various sports teams, the light were turned off. The gym was in almost total darkness, with light emitting from the ultraviolet lamps stationed in the corners of the gym.
“It was a very fun and interesting experience,” Maxson Chu ‘17 said. “I thought the [black lights] were very cool.”
For their performance, the Breakdance Club arranged white tape on their black outfits in the shape of stick figures. Under the ultraviolet lights, the white tape glowed while their black clothes blended into the darkness.
“I was excited when all the lights went out,” Breakdance Club member David Brocatto ‘17 said. “I liked performing in the black lights.”
Donned with glowing lipstick, the cheerleaders performed a cheer routine. Sundancer hip hop team Hype also performed, and Theatre Club staged a pretend light-saber battle between Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader.
“I thought [the pep rally] was innovative and exciting,” Varun Adiga ‘15 said. “I really loved the new spin they put on it.”
