Westwood’s Warriors (2-8) lost to the Cedar Ridge Raiders (4-6) in an emotional final game of the season on Nov 7.

Even in the first quarter, the unrelenting speed at which both teams played was evident. Cedar Ridge scored a seven-point touchdown at 7:57 in the first quarter—quickly followed by a 53-yard touchdown by Travis Wilde ’15 with 3:08 left in the quarter, bringing the score to 7-7. Shortly thereafter, the Raiders scored another running touchdown, bringing the score to 7-14 at the end of the first. In the second quarter, the Warriors could not answer the single Cedar Ridge touchdown with 8:33 left, bringing the score to 7-21 at the half.

Instead of performing Fore!, the show that got Westwood’s band to state competition, both SunDancer and Band seniors were recognized for their hard work they have put in throughout their four years at Westwood—Sundancers danced for the last time, but with their parents; whereas Band members were recognized individually on the field.

During the third quarter, in which the celebration of Seniors’ achievements continued, the Warriors scored a touchdown off of a pass to receiver Nick Andress ’15 with 5:44 left in the third. In the fourth quarter, the Warriors scored yet another touchdown, again off of a pass to Andress, with 10:03 left in the quarter—this tied the score at 21-21. The Raiders quickly put seven points of their own on the board, bringing the score to 21-28.

However, the game got heated late in the fourth quarter. Westwood was able to capitalize on a fumble during a kick to the Raiders, getting them within twenty yards of the Raiders’ end zone. Despite being hit with a plethora of penalties, the Warriors pushed on, only denied a touchdown (and a much-needed win) by a series of missed receptions and low passes.

This game concluded this year’s football season. The Warriors were 2-8 this year, winning only their homecoming game against McNeil, and a pre-district game against Anderson.
