On Saturday, April 18, students gathered at the Warrior Bowl for the Second Annual Warrior Fest.
Hosted and organized by the National Honor Society (NHS), Warrior Fest benefits the Thirst Project. The Thirst Project strives to provide clean, sanitized drinking water to people without easy access to it. All funds collected across the weeks prior to the event and at the event were donated. More than $8,000 were collected by the end of the event.
“We organized the whole thing,” NHS Member Gillian Mellor ‘15 said. “It’s our giant fundraiser project: we’ve been having meetings since the beginning of the school year, but we’ve been trying to make it a school-wide event.”
Many clubs set up booths with fun games and prizes. One of the most successful booths was set up by Knitting Club, consisting of a Guessing Jar and a Lollipop Draw.
The entertainment portion of the event consisted of student acts including bands, singers, and performers.
“I felt blessed because I was able to share the music with the people of Anderson Mill – A-Mill,” Darkhorse ATX Jai Prasadh ’16 said. “The bass was so hard that the plastic kept moving around. My beats go too hard.”
Other performers had slight technical difficulties, but managed to put on an amazing show nonetheless.
“We left three of our cables at home, so we had to plug our mics in to the sound system there, and the levels were all wrong,” lead singer of Rylan and the Class of 2015, Rylan Henderson ’16 said. “The E string on our rhythm guitar was also broken, and Geoff’s other guitar was out of tune.”
Regardless, both Darkhorse ATX and Rylan and the Class of 2015 have expressed interest in returning to Warrior Fest next school year. Though Warrior Fest is still a relatively new event, it seems to be very popular and will most likely continue in the future.
