After working for Round Rock ISD for 23 years, Mrs. Phyllis Schaak is retiring from the district.
Westwood has been her home for the past nine years, as she assisted Principal Arterbury, organized facility reservations, answered teacher questions, and solved any problems the school encountered.
“Working at Westwood were the best years in the district,” Mrs. Schaak said. “It’s a great place to work. Everyone is really appreciative and nice to work with and I always go home satisfied with a feeling of accomplishment.”
Throughout her years here, she saw many changes to the building and personnel.
“I know some people miss the student center, but I think the construction made it a lot more modern,” Mrs. Schaak said. “And a lot of the teachers have retired, but they were replaced with energetic, new teachers.”
As the Senior Administrative Assistant, Schaak keeps track of the principal’s calendar, manages facility keys and reservations, deal with maintenance requests, maintains copiers, and plan luncheons for teachers.
“She basically runs the school,” band director Mr. Jack Green said.
Although she will miss working with all the teachers and staff, Mrs. Schaak plans to use the extra time to enjoy getting involved in her grandchildren’s lives. In a few years, she may even pursue her real-estate career again.
“This is like my home,” Mrs. Schaak said. “I spend more time here than at home. I’m really going to miss it.”
Even though much of her work was behind the scenes, her dedication and hard work will be remembered after she retires. If you have time this week, be sure to stop by and give Mrs. Schaak a big thank you for all her work for our school.
